Description of the mentioned tournament:
PokerStars has once again partnered with Chicago-based PokerPower to host this aforementioned tournament, which will start on July 31st and run through September 28th. The main reason for organizing this tournament is to help to poker beginners with learning skills and strategies to become good at it. Furthermore, the event consists of 8 modules, each focusing on a specific part of poker, while also showing how basic gameplay skills may be used to achieve world-class success: from strategic decision-making and negotiation to capital allocation.
In addition to the Bootcamp being open to female players worldwide, all participants will also be able to practice what they have learned while playing PokerStars Home Games. After the Bootcamp, there will be a crescendo tournament, where the finalists will win an all-expense paid trip to EPT Cyprus this October to participate in the PokerStars x Poker Power Women’s Bootcamp Showdown to further contend for a package to EPT Prague this December.
Commenting on the upcoming event, Rebecca McAdam Willetts, Director of Partnerships, PR and Consumer Engagement said: “Working alongside our insights community, our ambassadors and key women and groups across the poker world, we are confident we can effect change with the many initiatives we have upcoming. We want to encourage more women to take their seat at the table, and in doing so, learn new skills that can also benefit them elsewhere in life. We want to create an accessible, safe and fun space for education and growth, where those new to the game can be vulnerable and open. We’re now in our second year of proudly working with Poker Power, and for the return of our bootcamp, we’ve taken all the great elements from its debut last year, and evolved it based on all the feedback and learning along the way. We know there’s great hunger for this and we can’t wait to meet our new recruits and see them learn and grow together!”
Erin Lydon, President of Poker Power added: “PokerStars shares our passion and commitment for the future of women in poker, so we are thrilled to be returning with our joint Bootcamp this year. We are expanding the scope of the Bootcamp to reach more women, and we will not only teach them how to play No Limit Texas Hold’em, but also provide them with skills and strategies that can be applied to their daily lives. We’re excited to introduce more women to the benefits of learning to think, negotiate and take risks, like a winning poker player, and we can’t wait to help them develop game changing poker skills during the Bootcamp.”
Applications are currently open, and the recruitment period officially closes on July 22. What’s more, those taking part will be able to learn from expert Poker Power instructors using the Poker Power Play app, and PokerStars Ambassadors like Lali Tournier, Georgina James and Jennifer Shahade who will be on hand to provide their support and advice. Further tools such as PokerStar Learn will be accessible 24/7 for those who take part to improve their skills in their own time, allowing them to learn hand rankings and familiarize themselves with the online poker format for those who haven’t played before or those who need refresher session.
More than half of UK women don’t think poker is available to them:
Prior to this reveal of the upcoming tournament, PokerStars conducted research in the UK which found that more than half of women in the UK don’t feel that poker is accessible to them, although there are also 42% women who actively play and believe it can help them focus and concentrate better. Also, another 38% believe it can help them improve their decision-making ability.
